"On
Eagles' Wings" Set to Fly
God has raised
up an amazing "life force" to bring in an unprecedented
spiritual harvest among Native people. A team of young
Native believers called "On Eagles' Wings" has been God's
instrument to bring the hope of Jesus to scores of reservations
throughout North America. These young "On Eagles' Wings"
warriors lead a series of unique events with an exciting
combination of sports, relevant "hip-hop" Christian music
and their personal Hope Stories-young Native believers
who have been the drug users and drug dealers, the rape
and abuse victims, the violent gang members, the attempted
suicides. But they come with the Gospel of Jesus, presented
compellingly on the basketball court in the heart of the
village.
Every
outreach is led by these Native young people. They are
the living proof that Jesus is not just the white man's
God! The harvest has been amazing. Last summer, over 1,700
Native young people gave their hearts to Christ on eleven
reservations. As missionaries and Native Christians have
implemented an extensive follow-up strategy, youth ministries
have been born on reservations where there they have never
existed before.
Summer
of Hope 2005 is now in full swing.
The 9th annual
WARRIOR LEADERSHIP SUMMIT, Native Youth Discipleship Conference
takes place June 26 - 30, 2005 in Minnesota. Last year
over 400 Native youth attended this strategic event. One
Christian leader said tearfully, "I think I'm standing
in the middle of church history." This year over 600 Native
young people are coming from all across North America.
The impact of that
conference can be summed up by a recent report from a
missionary who lives in a remote Eskimo community. He
said, "Warrior Leadership Summit is changing our village!"
He went on to explain how young people have returned to
that village with a new hope, a hope they are sharing
with many others-even to the point of taking a team of
their own to tell a nearby village about Jesus.
After Warrior Leadership
Summit, On Eagles' Wings will multiply its impact by dividing
into two teams representing some 25-35 tribes. "Team Eagles"
and "Team Warriors" will travel from July 1 to 31, launching
out to seventeen reservations and one major U.S. city
with a large Native population.
Each year the On
Eagles' Wings leadership prays through numerous invitations
to decide where to "send" these warriors. Many of these
invitations are similar to this adult believer's passionate
plea, "I have been crying out to God for our young people.
The need is so great-and nothing has really worked. We
desperately need On Eagles' Wings to come." This
year, On Eagles' Wings will be bringing hope to her reservation.
God seems to be
choosing this generation of Native American young people
to call out a people for Himself from the first people
of this continent to break through walls-and perhaps use
them as His "underdog army" to help America turn to Christ
and to take Him to lost peoples around the world who will
listen to them because of what they have suffered.
On Eagles' Wings
was founded by Ron Hutchcraft in 1991 and is directed
by veteran Native leader Craig Smith (Ojibwe). OEW is
the Native American ministry of Ron Hutchcraft Ministries,
